Emory & Henry College invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate/ or Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy. The position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track or clinical faculty position with a start date as early as May 1, 2023, but preferably no later than August 1, 2023.
About the School of Health Sciences:
The E&H School of Health Sciences was established in 2014 with the goal of preparing highly qualified health care professionals, with a focus on meeting the health care needs of the citizens within the underserved region of Southwest Virginia. The School is located on the former campus of the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia, which is 20 miles north of the main E&H campus. The 15-acre Health Sciences campus includes a newly renovated building completed in August of 2016. This facility is designed to promote interprofessional education and includes programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, clinical mental health counseling, and nursing.
About the Occupational Therapy Program:
The occupational therapy program has successfully graduated 4 cohorts of MOT students and currently has 3 cohorts of entry-level OTD students, with the first OTD cohort scheduled to graduate in August of 2023. The program has obtained Preaccreditation for transitioning to an entry-level Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program. The OTD program has completed an ACOTE onsite review and is awaiting final approval in May 2023. The occupational therapy department works closely with the community and students are very active in community class projects as well as community service activities. Department faculty believe in hands-on approaches including but not limited to: simulation labs, practicals and/or competencies, community activities, group case studies, class activities etc.
Position Responsibilities:
The Assistant/Associate/Professor will be responsible for the following as they relate to the School of Health Sciences and the Department of Occupational Therapy:
assist in maintaining ACOTE accreditation
teach courses in the OTD program (Potential areas of interest or expertise: General adult rehabilitation; anatomy; kinesiology)
lead student research groups
serve as faculty capstone mentor for assigned students
advise students
serve on departmental, school and college committees as needed
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess an earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution (OTD, PhD, EdD) and be licensed in Virginia (or eligible for licensure) as an occupational therapist.
Applicants must also have a minimum of 2 years of clinical practice as an occupational therapist.
Previous college/university teaching experience in an accredited occupational therapy program is preferred.
