The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University invites applications for three postdoctoral fellowship positions for the 2023-2024 academic year. Founded in 1857 as the first conservatory in the United States with a rich history of innovation and leadership in performance training at the highest level, Peabody comprises both a Conservatory for undergraduate and graduate studies and the Preparatory, Baltimore's largest community performing arts school. A division of Johns Hopkins, one of the world's preeminent research universities and medical institutions, Peabody has developed important initiatives in both arts in healthcare and clinical care for performing artists.? Now Peabody is expanding its global leadership through the development of new performing arts health initiatives designed to address musculoskeletal, vocal, auditory, and mental health concerns related to learning, performing, and consuming music and dance. 

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this challenge and a highly collaborative context that includes scholars from across the Johns Hopkins University, performing arts scholars with STEM and/or social and behavioral science training/experiences are encouraged to apply. Through the development of postdoctoral fellowships in Performing Arts & Health, Peabody is particularly interested in identifying, fostering, and training cross-disciplinary oriented academic leaders who want to research, develop, teach, mentor, and disseminate effective strategies intended to advance a health-oriented performing arts culture around the world.

Postdoctoral fellows will support the development of new curricular and research initiatives within the Peabody Institute as well as participate in global scholarly, educational, and professional activities.  Applicants are expected to demonstrate a broad and historical understanding of the established and evolving discipline of Performing Arts Health and ideally will also possess a detailed knowledge of regional, national, and global strategies intended to steer tertiary performing arts programs and related disciplines.  They should demonstrate a record of collaborative engagement as a researcher while also using their knowledge of the research literature to identify needs and opportunities for further studies. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in multiple research techniques and methods for data analysis, writing skills for grant applications and scientific publishing, and abilities to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues across disciplines and at all levels.

Postdoctoral research fellows will be part of a rich and collegial scientific research community at Johns Hopkins University with access to state-of-the-art research facilities and numerous opportunities for collaboration across the Hopkins campus. Salary and fringe benefits will be compliant with guidelines established by the Johns Hopkins University.

Qualifications

Doctoral degree (see below)

Track record of broad research experience in multiple modalities

Experience in research collaboration across disciplines

Background in music and/or dance

Teaching/mentoring experience

Curiosity about/passion for transdisciplinary research

Interest in being an agent of change within field
